"Capturing light is what an artist does. We use archaic tools, values and hues to trick the eye into seeing two dimensions in three. And when painting a night sky, all the colors and values are condensed, challenging the painter to crutch, on a very narrow depth of field. This was my first attempt at such as I had never painted a night scene before. Though I did not see a leopard in the large acacia that night, a spotted cat must have used that perfect perch at some point in the life of this large acacia tree." - John Banovich
