Ankole

EXPERIENCE THE UNTAMED BEAUTY OF NATURAL SALVAGED ANKOLE HORN.

“Dignity is restored as a person’s work is appreciated. ” Bobby & Downie Mickler

A herd of Ankole cows is a sight to be seen on the red dirt roads of East Africa.  Known as the “Cattle of Kings”,  Ankole cows are extremely valuable to regional tribes and national beef industries.  Until the last decade Ankole horns were being discarded in many areas but social entrepreneurs, Bobby and Downie Mickler, have found a unique and elegant way of repurposing them.  In 2014 they established a collaborative procurement process to benefit small businesses in several East African countries.  The Micklers founded the business after serving as missionaries in Uganda, focusing on job creation where unemployment is an issue.

Handmade in Uganda, every pair of horns has it’s own unique color and shape, and every person who crafts it into a home accent piece has his or her own personal story about the artistic care and concern for each item they create.
