“On a brilliant September morning in Colorado, I watched as a herd of mule deer ascended a steep hillside with relative ease. As they zigzagged back and forth, I began a feeble attempt to follow their path. At the top of the hill was a spring lined with aspen trees displaying their brilliant fall colors.
